Advancing Health Equity: From Insight to Action

My work is fundamentally driven by a commitment to identifying and dismantling health disparities. I leverage data to expose inequities and partner with communities and governments to co-create targeted, inclusive solutions.

Data-Driven Equity Analysis & Measurement

  • Conducted pioneering analysis of immunization inequity for UNICEF South Asia, mapping coverage disparities across eight countries based on socio-economic, geographic, and demographic stratifiers to pinpoint unmet need.

  • Developed comprehensive immunization equity profiles for multiple countries in the WHO European Region, triangulating data from sources like DHS/MICS and JRF to visualize and quantify gaps for policymakers.

  • Created an "equity bubble tool" using MS Excel to dynamically showcase vaccination coverage and inequity across the South Asian region, making complex data accessible for advocacy and action.

Targeted Program Design for Marginalized Populations

  • Developed case studies and M&E frameworks for Save the Children to address health inequities among highly disadvantaged groups, including migrants, nomadic pastoralists, and hard-to-reach communities.

  • Contributed to urban health initiatives, documenting best practices and conducting baseline assessments to improve primary health care access for underserved populations in cities across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

  • Designed and implemented supportive supervision and gap analysis frameworks specifically for high-priority and poor-performing districts, ensuring resources and efforts were directed where they were needed most.

Community-Centric Approaches & Empowerment

  • Pioneered the "My Village My Home" tool for community-level monitoring of child immunization status, empowering local communities to take ownership and action to ensure no child is left behind.

  • Conducted qualitative research to understand health-seeking behaviors and perceptions of quality among rural communities, ensuring program designs are grounded in user experience and needs.

  • Developed tailored communication packages and FAQs for diverse stakeholders, including parents and community mobilizers, to bridge information gaps and build trust in health services.

Integrating Equity into Health Systems & Strategies

  • Provided technical assistance to institutionalize the RNNCH+A strategy in India, with a core focus on equity and accountability through the use of scorecards and dashboards to track outcomes for vulnerable groups.

  • Authored scientific articles and strategy documents that critically examine the equity dimensions of public health programs, contributing to academic and policy discourse on inclusive health.

  • Engaged in operational research on Reproductive and Sexual Health, investigating access and quality of care in non-formal private sectors and rural areas to inform more equitable service delivery models.

Cross-Cutting Lens on Gender & Social Determinants

  • Applied a gender-sensitive lens across all projects, ensuring data is disaggregated and programs are designed to address the specific barriers faced by women and girls in accessing healthcare.

  • Investigated the role of social determinants of health, from early childhood care practices in urban slums to the impact of competition on maternity care, to address the root causes of health disparities

Core Areas

  • Uncovering Disparities: conducting in-depth inequity analyses by triangulating data from multiple sources, producing clear reports that pinpoint gaps in access and outcomes at national and sub-national levels.

  • Designing for Equity: developing practical tools and data visualizations that map unmet needs, enabling partners to prioritize and fund the most critical, equity-focused interventions.

  • Reaching the Unreached: documenting learnings from successful programs for urban slums, nomadic, migrant, and other hard-to-reach communities.
